Our
mission is working to provide service for a
network of member and cooperating agencies that
promote the emotional and social well-being of
Michigan’s children and families. |
|
|
For
120 years Child and Family Services of Michigan,
Inc., has provided a wide range of programs
directed toward strengthening Michigan's
children and families. Literally thousands of disadvantaged children
have had the opportunity to lead successful
lives as a result of services
which offered solutions for many social
problems that influence lives, both directly and
indirectly. |
|
|
Today,
Child and Family Services of Michigan, Inc.
provides comprehensive social services through nine
member
agencies across
the State. Services are offered to children and
families needing assistance in several different
areas. Individual, family and pregnancy
counseling is available; as well as domestic
violence, substance abuse, juvenile delinquency,
foster care, adoption, and elderly assistance
programs. In addition to the State Office in
Okemos, our member agencies' offices are located
in Adrian, Alpena, Lansing, Holland, Jackson,
Midland, Benton Harbor, Traverse City, Harbor
Springs, and Marquette. |

|
Child
and Family Services of Michigan, Inc., State
Office is a
private, non-profit, Statewide, non-sectarian
social service organization, and is the
repository for one of the country's largest
collection of adoption
records.
Our agency operates a progressive post-adoption
program and
provides comprehensive support services to other
Michigan non-profit social service agencies,
which allows those agencies to allocate more funding to direct care services for
children and families. |

Our
"Operation
Good Cheer",
was begun in 1971 by individuals who wanted to
make a difference in the lives of children who
reside in foster care. Recipients include
infants, children, teenagers, and adults with
disabilities. Over
4,000 children and
youth are provided with gifts each year to open
on Christmas morning. Thousands of
generous volunteers gather annually to
participate and, since
1971, more than 77,500 participants have had
their Christmas wishes come true as a result of
Operation Good Cheer volunteer
and donor
efforts. Donor groups and individuals
purchase and wrap Christmas gifts from a child's
"Wish List"; gifts are picked up and
transported by volunteer trucking companies to a
centrally located airport;
and, volunteer pilots
and drivers, using their personal aircraft and
vehicles, transport gifts to local airports
across Michigan. At each arrival airport, agency
volunteers gather gifts and deliver them to
children and youth in foster care. This
impressive display of generosity provides
thousands of youth, some of whom would not
receive anything otherwise, with gifts and the
joy of knowing there are people who care.
We are very proud to say that 2011 marks the 40th
Anniversary of this very
important and successful program.
